Imitators of God

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.  Ephesians 5:1 ESV

I remember in my childhood years I would imitate my heroes.  Many were the times that I would dawn a bath towel as a cape and be the super man flying to the rescue of someone in distress.  How was it that I could imitate my heroes?  I was well acquainted  with them by watching them on TV everyday after school or reading comic books.  I do not want to equate God with a super hero,  but I do want to make the point- to imitate a person you must know them.   As Christians it should be our desire to be like Him and to behave in such a way that those who see us could receive a glimpse of God.  So, what are some of the ways in which we should be imitating Him?   As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy”  1 Peter 1:14-16 ESV  Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 ESV     Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good.  Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not see God.  3 John 1:11 ESV  One of the most important ways we can imitate God is by loving each other.  Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:11 ESV    The way we imitate God is the testimony of who He is in our lives.  To go by the name Christian is to be Christ like in all our conduct.  And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2 ESV  God sending  His Son gave us undeniable view of His incredible love for us.  May we so emulate  who Christ is in our lives that we live our lives unto God as a sacrifice to Him.  I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1 ESV   It is impossible to do this if you do not know Him; for you cannot imitate someone unless you know them.  Make it your life goal to imitate God, for you may be the one He uses to fly to the rescue of a life falling into eternity unprepared.
