How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? Romans 10:14
It is with great responsibility that we are entrusted with the word of God. His word is more than just words…. they are the very life lived by Christ that we are to share with the world. John 1:14 spells out clearly this truth, ” And the Word became FLESH and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” The words we read in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation reveal the living Christ who was from the beginning, is today, and forever. (John 1:1-2 Hebrews 13:8) The first question of Romans 10:14, “How then will they call on him whom they have not believed?” Remember the old saying? “Seeing is believing.” For many the only way they will ever believe in Christ is by seeing the evidence of Him in the Christian’s life. It is imperative for Christians to live their lives reflecting the life of Christ. Do you remember the account of Thomas when the other disciples told him they had seen Christ alive after his crucifixion? Thomas’s reply was, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” John 20:25 ESV Jesus was more than ready to oblige coming eight days later telling Thomas to do all that he said he must do to believe. Jesus told Thomas he believed because he had seen. (John 20:26-29) For some people they must see Jesus and the only way that will happen in many cases is by how Christians live their lives out loud . The second question of Romans 14:10 is, “And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?” Christians are the chosen mouth piece of God for sharing the gospel or good new of His saving grace and mercy. We must never be silent about who Jesus is. It is a privilege to be able to share this message for if we don’t, the rocks will. (Luke 19:38-40) The Salvation and Glory of the Lord will never be silenced. Through out history attempts have been made to do so but to no avail. Jesus said “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Luke 21:33 ESV Therefore with boldness let us speak to the world that Jesus has come to seek and to save those who are lost. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10 ESV The final question of Romans 10:14, “And how will they hear without someone preaching?” It is the responsibility of every christian to proclaim this good news as often as possible. Preaching is often thought only to come from the pulpit but not so. The Apostles in Acts 5:42 made this clear, “And everyday in the temple AND from HOUSE TO HOUSE, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.” Yes, I know there are those that are specifically called to be pastors and preach the word of God. But don’t let pastors and preachers have all the joy. Preaching is just sharing the message of Jesus; and if you are born again, you have a Jesus message. You may not share it from pulpits; but what ever you do, by any and all means share it. There are many that I believe will receive Jesus as Savior and Lord as long as the Son shines on the harvest. Oh Christian be the one whom He uses to accomplish the amazing grace of salvation in the life of another. Let us keep those rocks silent.
