But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. John 4:23 ESV
Over the past few weeks I have surveyed several individuals with questions concerning worship. Questions such as: What is true worship? Can worship be taught? Is worship something we see? Is worship private or must it be outwardly expressed? In speaking with different individuals I received many different answers. Some of the answers I agreed with, some I am still processing, and others I didn’t necessarily agree to. So over the next few weeks I will continue to ask question; and while not scientific, I will be sharing my thoughts and belief concerning worship. When asking questions concerning worship, I am asking in reference to the God of Christianity. Let us begin with this worship quest by looking at John 4:23.
In John 4:23 there are three things concerning worship. The time for worship is now, we are to worship the Father in spirit and truth, and the Father is seeking people to worship Him.
The time of worship is now! Worship is not just a Sunday and perhaps Wednesday event when we all meet together for what we call a worship or prayer service. True worship should happen everyday. This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24 ESV Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Psalms 96:2 ESV So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV
We worship in spirit and truth. Christians believe God became flesh through His son Jesus. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 ESV Christians worship in the truth of this fact that Jesus has set us free from the power of sin and death and this is our testimony of worship to the world. Christians have this testimony of worship because they have the Spirit of God living in them. Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? Romans 3:16ESV
The Father is seeking such people to worship Him. When God looks into your life, what does He see? We need to be a reflection of Christ for this is one of the greatest acts of worship to God the Father that we can do. I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1 ESV
Worshiping God can be done/accomplished in many way. True worship will always be about making much of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the person of the Holy Spirit. This is my prayer for everyone who is reading this-that your hearts desire will be to do just that, to worship in spirit and truth. God deserves no less!
